Why an offer is not shown
When an offer is shown, the holder sees it in the Offers table on the bond’s page, everyone sees the best offer in Browse’s Offer column, and the holder’s bond card wears the Offer received pill. Your offer can be missing at two moments. It was refused when you signed, and nothing was stored. Or it was stored and is hidden now, because one of the checks fails, while your signature stays live on chain. In the second case the bond’s page tells you why, in the note “Your offer is not shown”, and Browse keeps the Bidding pill on the bond, since the offer is still yours to cancel. A bond can also be missing from Browse while your offer is shown. Browse lists no bond of a Coffer whose coverage mark is red, and the bond’s page still opens by its own address with your offer on it. The mechanism is on How trading works, the steps on Make an offer.
Refused when you sign
Section titled “Refused when you sign”An offer is checked before it is stored, and a refusal is a red line under the button. Nothing was stored, so there is nothing to cancel. The lines, in the sequence of the checks:
| The line | What happened | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “The offer could not be sent. Refresh the page and try again.” | The request or the signature arrived in a shape that could not be read. | Refresh and sign again. |
| “The expiration you chose is already in the past.” | The expiration was before now. The card’s one-day minimum prevents it. | Sign again. |
| “This bond does not exist.” | The page is stale. | Reload the page. |
| “This bond is no longer outstanding.” | The bond was settled since the page loaded. | Nothing, the bond is gone. |
| “The bond’s value changed since you opened this form. Close it and open it again.” | The remaining maturity value moved under the form. | Close the bond’s page and open it again. |
| “The expiration is too far in the future.” | The expiration is past the longest one allowed. The card’s 90 days normally stay under it. | Choose fewer days. |
| “The marketplace is not accepting this offer at the moment: makers whose address has code are switched off.” | Listings and offers from contract wallets are switched off for now. | Wait, or sign from a wallet without code. |
| “Your wallet made a signature that is too long for the marketplace.” | A contract wallet’s signature is longer than 2048 bytes. | Sign from another wallet. |
| “Your wallet’s code rejects this signature, so the marketplace could not accept your offer.” | Your contract wallet said no to its own signature. | Sign again once the wallet accepts it. |
| “Your WETH balance or allowance does not cover this offer plus the fee.” | Your WETH balance or the allowance on chain falls short. The card’s wrap and approve steps normally prevent it. | Wrap more ETH or approve WETH, then sign again. |
| “Your offer nonce is out of date. Refresh the page and sign again.” | A cancel of yours landed on this bond since the page loaded. | Refresh and sign again. |
| “You already have an offer at this amount or higher. Cancel it on-chain first to place a lower one.” | Your current offer stands at the same or a higher amount, shown or hidden. | Raise the amount to replace it in one signature, or cancel first to place a lower one, see below. |
| “The marketplace could not verify your offer right now. Nothing was stored. Please try again.” | The chain could not be read for one of the checks. | Press again. |
| “Too many requests. Wait a moment and try again.” | More requests than are allowed in one minute. | Wait a minute. |
| “Something went wrong on the server. Please try again.” | The server failed on its side. | Try again, and later if it repeats. |
| “Could not reach the marketplace server. Check your connection and try again.” | The request never reached the server. | Check your connection. |
Hidden afterwards
Section titled “Hidden afterwards”Once stored, your offer is checked again and again. The checks cover its expiration, the bond’s standing and its remaining value, your WETH balance and allowance, and a contract wallet’s answer. An offer that fails a check is hidden. The holder’s table, the Offer column and the Offer received pill lose it, so nobody can accept it through the app. Your own card keeps it, with its amount and its expiry, Browse keeps Bidding or Outbid on the bond while it lists the bond, and the history line Offer made stays. The signature stays fillable on chain for anyone who kept it, since hiding happens off chain.
The note on the bond’s page reads “Your offer is not shown”, then “Your offer of … WETH is still signed but the marketplace is not showing it because:” followed by one line per reason. It ends “Cancel it on-chain to revise it.” The note refreshes with the bond’s events and after your own actions on the bond. A change in your own balance alone does not refresh it, so an offer that has come back shows once you reload the page.
The reasons, one by one
Section titled “The reasons, one by one”“its expiration has passed” means the offer ran out. The chain refuses an expired offer by itself, so there is nothing to cancel. For about 12 seconds it still counts as your current offer, so a higher amount replaces it and a lower one is refused with the cancel-first line. After that a new offer needs no cancel, since your nonce never moved.
“the bond is no longer outstanding” means the bond was settled, redeemed by its holder or its validator, or claimed in a default, and the offer can never fill. There is nothing to do, and the offer is closed within a day.
“the bond’s remaining value changed since you signed” means a claim in a default drew part of the bond’s value, and the value signed into your offer no longer matches. The offer can never fill, the bond shows as matured and is no longer traded here, and the offer is closed within a day. Cancel the offer if you want it gone before then.
“your WETH balance or allowance no longer covers the offer plus the fee” means you spent, moved or unwrapped WETH, or lowered the allowance, or another offer of yours was accepted and took the WETH that stood behind both. The offer stays signed and comes back on its own. Wrap ETH or move WETH back into the wallet, or approve WETH again, and the offer is shown again within about 12 seconds, no cancel needed. Reload the page to see it. Until it comes back, a lower amount is refused with the cancel-first line, and a higher one is taken once the balance and the allowance cover the total. Cancel the offer only if you no longer want it.
“your wallet no longer accepts the signature it gave” concerns a contract wallet, a Safe or another account whose code signs for it. Your wallet’s code is asked every 12 seconds whether the signature still stands, and a no hides the offer, after an owner changed or a delegation moved for example. The offer comes back on the next yes. If the wallet will not accept it again, cancel it. More is on Contract wallets.
“you no longer hold the bond” is a listing’s reason and never an offer’s, see the last section.
One live offer per bond
Section titled “One live offer per bond”There is one offer per wallet and bond, and a hidden offer counts as that one. A new offer at the same nonce is refused with “You already have an offer at this amount or higher. Cancel it on-chain first to place a lower one.” when it does not improve on your current amount. A strictly higher amount replaces your current offer, one signature and no cancel, and signing the very same offer again changes nothing. To raise the amount, use the pencil on your card, Update offer, and press Update Offer. To lower it, the same face sends the cancel first and then asks for the new signature, see Make an offer. A cancel is not needed when the reason is a short balance or a wallet’s no, since those come back, or an expiry, since an expired offer is closed on its own.
Shown after all
Section titled “Shown after all”Three cases look like a missing offer and are not. An offer you made on a bond you now hold, because you bought its listing or received the bond, stays shown, since only you are refused a trade with yourself and the next holder can accept it. The bond’s page says so, “Your offer on this bond”, and “You made it before you held the bond. Nobody can fill it while you hold the bond, the next holder can. Cancel it if you do not want that.”, with the cancel card and a Your offer row in the table. An offer on a bond that has matured stays shown and fillable, though the app no longer trades the bond, and the page shows “This bond has matured” with “It is no longer traded here. Your offer is still signed and can be filled on-chain until you cancel it.” and the cancel card alone. An Outbid pill is not a hidden offer either, a higher offer stands and yours stays shown and fillable.
One more case is real but rare. The bond’s page carries the top 50 offers by amount. An offer below them is stored, fillable and counted, and not on the page, and Browse reads Outbid for you, since a higher offer stands.
Gone for good
Section titled “Gone for good”An offer that was accepted, cancelled or has expired is closed, and your card leaves the bond’s page. The lines the chain wrote stay in the bond’s history, Offer accepted and Offer cancelled. The Offer made line goes 30 days after the offer closed.
The same for a listing
Section titled “The same for a listing”A listing is checked by the same rules, less the funds one, since a listing draws no WETH. It has one reason of its own, “you no longer hold the bond”. A listing is shown only while you hold the bond, so a transfer or an accepted offer hides it at once. A fill of it fails for the same reason while you do not hold the bond, see Buy or accept. A listing’s expiration is the bond’s maturity, so an expired listing is a matured bond’s. On a matured bond the page shows “This bond has matured” with “It is no longer traded here. Your listing is still signed and can be filled on-chain until you cancel it.” and Cancel Listing, for a listing that is still live, shown or hidden.
